Mrs. Mary E. MaGee

Mrs. Mary Edith MaGee, 68, of Enfield, North Carolina, affectionately known to many as “Cup”, was born to the late Robert Newell and the late Mary Solomon Newell on July 17, 1948. She was peacefully called from labor to eternal reward on March 24, 2017 at Enfield Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Enfield, North Carolina.

Mary was educated in the Halifax County Public School System. In her youth, she joined Simmons Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member throughout her life.

Mary was known to be strong-willed and high-spirited, always willing to extend a helping hand when needed. She was also a very passionate person, who was known for her specialty dishes, loving sternness, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends.

Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James “Skeeter” Magee; one daughter: Angela Ponton; one son: Christopher Ponton; and four siblings: Floyd, Raymond, Robert, Jr., and Marie Newell.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, four sons: Charles Ponton of Richmond, VA, Reginald Ponton (Cheryl) of Petersburg, VA, Michael Ponton (Jennifer) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Marvin Ponton (Tpau) of Columbia, MD; one daughter: Shaniqua Newell of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one daughter-in-law: Elisha Garner of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one sister-in-law: Evelyn Magee Fletcher of Hinesville, GA; ten grandchildren: Brittney, Jamon, Nazir, Ny’Asia, Isaiah, Michael, Jr., Josiah, Kairi, Tamia, and Dayvion; two brothers: James Newell of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Fredrick Newell of Nashville, TN; one aunt: Betsey Mae Solomon of Enfield, NC; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Visitation for Mrs. MaGee will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 Noon, with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 12:00 Noon, on Friday, March 31, 2017, in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. The Interment will take place immediately after the Service in Shearin's Chapel Church Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
