Mr. Melvin L. Arrington

Mr. Melvin Lee Arrington, 62, of Littleton, North Carolina, was born to the late George Washington Arrington and the late Lois Juanita Sykes Arrington on August 14, 1954 in Halifax County, North Carolina, and answered the Master’s call to eternal rest and peace on Sunday, April 2, 2017.

During his early life, he was baptized into the Christian faith and joined the Springfield Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the public schools of Halifax County.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Carolyn Burgess Arrington. God blessed this union with two loving children.

He was first employed with Sears, J.P. Stevens, Aycock Tire Service, and later became an entrepreneur. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In his younger days, Melvin enjoyed cooking on the grill, riding Motorcycles and ATV vehicles. The young and old will surely miss his presence in the community, where he was called “Shortye” by some and referred to as “Mel” by others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mechelle Arrington and his nephews, Tony Hawkins and Anthony Lee Hawkins.

His spirit lives on today and forever more in the hearts and minds of his children: Kenn Arrington (Katina) of Greensboro, NC and Jennifer Lynch (David) of Enfield, NC; his three sisters: Yvonne Hawkins (Collie), Georgia Hubbard, and Linda Abington, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two very caring and dedicated brothers: Dennis Arrington of Littleton, NC and Ronnie Arrington of Enfield, NC; his six aunts: Brenda Ausby and Edith Arrington of Enfield, NC, Elise Bennett of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Nancy Arrington of Halifax, NC, Emma Jean Sykes of Suffolk, VA and Nettie Lynch of Littleton, NC; two uncles: William and Jerome Sykes of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three sisters-in-law: Patricia Johnson, Doris Clanton, and Brenda Faulcon, all of Littleton, NC; three brothers-in-law: Charles Burgess of Littleton, NC, Benjamin Burgess of San Diego, Ca, and Gary Burgess of Smithfield, NC; three grandchildren: Christian Arrington, Jordan Fitts, and Briana Arrington; 11 nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and many friends.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Arrington will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 8, 2017, in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home.
