Forestville, MD

Mr. James Lewis Belfield, Jr., 76, of Forestville, Maryland, and formerly of Gaston, North Carolina, affectionately known as “Lewis” or “Jay”, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Bradford Oaks Center in Clinton, Maryland.

James was born on August 18, 1941 to the late James L. Belfield, Sr. and Atlea Belfield Robinson in Gaston, North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James H. Belfield, Sr. (Fats), sister-in-law, Viola Belfield (Vee), and aunt, Annie Maude Brooks.

Lewis was introduced to God at an early age and was baptized and joined Gaston Missionary Baptist Church in Gaston, North Carolina.

Lewis attended and graduated from the John A. Chaloner High School in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He was one of the best Drum Majors there. After graduating, Lewis went to New York for a while then moved to Maryland where he worked for the Federal Government.

James Lewis leaves to cherish his memories, brother: Roy L. Belfield, Sr. (Brenda) of Richmond, VA; step-father: Cecil L. Robinson of Weldon, NC; one uncle: William Brooks of Gaston, NC; three nieces: Sharon B. Davis of Charlotte, NC, Tasha N. Pope (Curtis) of Baltimore, MD, and Diandra Lipscomb of Richmond, VA; three nephews: James H. Belfield, Jr. of Roosevelt, NY, Dr. Roy L. Belfield, Jr. of Hampton, VA and Marcus L. Belfield (Shenise) of Killeen, TX; two great-nieces: Courtney Pope and Camryn Pope; four great-nephews: Terrell Belfield, Jordan Belfield, Justin Bouler and Jaylon Belfield; and a host of loving and devoted cousins and friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Belfield will be held at 2:30 pm, on Saturday, September 23, 2017, in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Rev. Louis G. Jones will be officiating. The Interment will take place immediately after the Service in Gaston Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Gaston, NC.
