Obituary

Gaithersburg, MD

Mrs. Sarah Ann Burgess, 80, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and formerly of Halifax County, North Carolina, died on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She was born in Halifax County, North Carolina on March 30, 1937 to Linwood and Alene Hall Browning.

She was educated in the public schools of Halifax County.

In her youth, Sarah confessed faith in Christ and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina.

Sarah was married to Roosevelt Burgess and was blessed with three daughters.

She loved children and commenced her 38-year employment with Pat and Margurite Sung as caretaker for their children.

She firmly believed that if you love your children you will raise them so others will also love them. To her this meant much talking and when necessary, a little hands on. Many of us can recall her saying “I love you, but I’ll get legs”. Any child in her care at some point ‘felt’ the love!

She enjoyed reading, primarily the Bible and religious literature.

She was very generous. No matter how little she had, she gladly shared with those in need – family, friends, and strangers alike.

Sarah departed this life on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Rosanna Browning, Theora Browning, and Diann Burgess of Gaithersburg, MD; one granddaughter: Keisha Wheeler and husband, Jamil Wheeler of Gaithersburg, MD; three great-grandchildren: KaiBriana McDonald and Jianna and Julien Wheeler; a sister: Hattie Browning of Roanoke Rapids, NC; four nieces: Gloria Browning, Roselyn Browning Harvey, Angel Renee Browning, Ida Palmer, and Isolina Garcia; two nephews: Herbert Browning and Johnnie Palmer; a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
