Mr. Lendsay W. Hawkins

Mr. Lendsay Wilburn Hawkins, 74, of Newport News, Virginia, and formerly of Littleton, North Carolina, died on Monday, October 2, 2017. Lendsay was born in Halifax County, North Carolina to Royal and Bessie Hawkins on January 24, 1943.

He graduated from Eastman High School. He continued his education at the Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School becoming a 1st Class Welder. Later, he completed a four-year apprenticeship and became a Master Printer. He retired from the Federal Government as an Expert Graphics Artist.

Lendsay enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, upholstery, cooking and craftsman work.

Lendsay was preceded in death by his father, Royal, Sr., mother, Bessie and brothers, Robert and Willie.

Lendsay is survived by his wife: Carolyn; his sons: Alvin Bryant, Dwight and Dwayne Hawkins; grandchildren: Dwight Hawkins, Jr. (DJ), Camille Bryant, Dlaysiah Hawkins, Blake Bryant, Danel Hawkins, and Shane and Ava Hawkins; sisters: Vina H. Johnson of Newport News, VA, Tracee Boxley (Elisha) of Fort Washington, MD; brothers: Kelly M. Hawkins (Minnie) of Martinsville, VA, Royal L. Hawkins, Jr. (Priscilla) of Littleton, NC, Julian A. Hawkins (Louise) of Enfield, NC, Joseph A. Hawkins (Janice) of Raleigh, NC, and Allison D. Hawkins (Janice) of Littleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Graveside Service for Mr. Hawkins will be held at 1:00 pm, on Thursday, October 5, 2017, in the Hawkins Family Cemetery, 1261 Tanner Road, in Littleton, NC.

These professional services have been entrusted to H.D. Pope Funeral Home, located at 520 Smith Church Road in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
