Obituary

Bettie Lou Williams was born August 15, 1929 to the late Matthew and Mahalia Williams. She was the fifth of seven children born to this union. She entered into eternal rest on October 25, 2017 at the Edgecombe Health and Rehab.

She was educated in the Martin schools.

Bettie joined St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop H. Williams. She was a loyal and dedicated church member. She was a choir member and worked with the youth. Later Bettie united with the Church of Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith under the leadership of Bishop Omega Shelton and Minister Lamn. She was a faithful member and loved her church family. She was a mother and worked on
the hospitality committee.

Bettie was a hard worker and dedicated mother to her children Ollie, Beatrice, Lewis and (Barbara who preceded her in death). After the death of her sister, she took her two nephews,Thurman and Walter and raised them as her own.

She was in-volved in her children education. She served as the secretary for the PTA. Bettie was a community care taker, visiting the sick and helping out in any way that she could, the community always enjoyed her delicious cooking. Bettie worked for several families in Oak City. They all loved her and she was considered a part of their families.

Bettie worked for the Martin County School food services at West Martin School. Bettie leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Beatrice Petway (Columbus) of Rocky Mount NC; four sons, Ollie (Yvonne) and Lewis (Irashma) of Rocky Mount, NC, Thurman (Daiidna) of Tarboro, NC and Walter of Baltimore, MD; sixteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, three foster children Andy (Sally), Janet (Kip) and Carol (Mike) and host of other relatives, church family and friends.

A Visitation for Ms. Williams will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 1:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church , located at 1219 Hasselk Rd in Oak City, NC. The interment will take place in St. James Church Cemetery in Hobgood, N.C.

These professional services have been entrusted to H.D. Pope Funeral Home, located at 325 Nash Street in Rocky Mount, NC.
