Obituary

Rocky Mount, NC

Mattie Ree Cofield Avent was born on February 19,1931 in Tarboro, North Carolina to the late Elmo Allen and Bessie Cofield Evans. Following a long battle with illness,
she was called home on February 17, 2018 at Hunter Hill Nursing Home.

She accepted Christ in her life and would frequently attend Morning Star Church of Christ.
She enjoyed all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Avent; step-father, Sandy Evans; one son, Jimmy Avent, Jr.; three brothers, Stanley Allen, James Cofield, and Hosea Cofield;
one sister, Dora Camp; two grandchildren, Donald Avent and Justin Alston; and one great grandchild, Shakeem Avent.

She leaves to cherish precious memories to her children, Annie Daniels, Verla Avent, Bessie Hutcher (Albert), Walter Avent (Barbara), Robert Avent, Rosie Davis (Walter),
James Avent (Cynthia), Percy Avent, Leroy Avent and Curtis Avent all of Rocky Mount, NC; sisters, Dorothy Dancy, Jennifer Asken (Lavern) of Rocky Mount, NC, Gracie Whitfield and Nell Hatcher of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law, Erma Cofield of Rocky Mount, NC; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives
and friends.

A Visitation for Mrs. Avent will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 11:00 am on Friday, February 23, 2018 in the Rocky Mount Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home, 325 Nash St., Rocky Mount, NC. The interment will take place immediately following the service in Gardens of Gethsemane in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
