Obituary

Rocky Mount, NC

Mrs. Betty Jean Applewhite Dunlap, affectionally know to so many as “Jean” answered the call of her Lord and Savior on Sunday March 11, 2018 at Duke Raleigh Hospital.
Betty Jean, the daughter of the late Lossie Applewhite and Lee Chism was born January 20, 1946 in Scotland Neck NC. She attended Halifax County School.

Betty, joined St. Paul Church of God in Christ forty-two years ago, after listening to Evangelist Shirley Frink message “I must carry the Torch.” She started carrying the torch of Salvation, and she lived out the true meaning of salvation. Upon her dedicated membership she worked faithfully as a member of the Angelic Gospel Choir, Hospitality Club, and Pres. of Pastor’s Aide Committee.

Sis. Dunlap took great pride in her membership with Shine A Little Light, for 18 years. She was an Ambassador. She enjoyed visiting nursing homes distributing gowns& socks, distributing clothes to the needed, and visiting the elders that are home bound. She loved a good telephone conversation, and riding to visit family and friends.

Sis. Dunlap touched the lives of everyone she met. (The special nickname that she called her family members & friends will be missed.” She loved herself some fried fish, cucumbers, apples, collards and salad, ate one of them every day.

W. Battle, Rocky Mount, Giles D. Battle (Tawanda) Raleigh NC, six grandchildren..

Applewhite, Tarboro NC, Lee Chism,Rocky Mount NC. One Brother in law, Paul Nicholson, Enfield NC. Onesister-n-law Clora Applewhite, Wilson NC and a host of nieces, nephew,
relatives and friends. Ladies she loved to chat with on a daily basis Mrs. Dorothy Parker, Emma Whitakers.

A Visitation for Mrs. Dunlap will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Paul Church of God in Christ, 724 East Raleigh Boulevard in Rocky Mount, N.C. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church; 702 West Raleigh Boulevard, in Rocky Mount, N.C. The Interment will take place immediately after the service in Gardens of Gethsemane in Rocky Mount, N.C.
