"It is Beautiful; it is like a trace, if this is death, it is sweet. God is calling me and I must go. Please don’t call me back” D.L. Moody, 1889
As a new year was dawning so did the life of Mr. Raymond Lee Taylor Jr. born Saturday January 4, 1941 in rural Nash County, North Carolina to the union of Mr. Raymond Taylor Sr and Mary Magdalene Harrison Taylor. The family would later relocate to rural Wilson County, North Carolina where his father was an overseer on the Braswell Farm. During his formative years the seeds of a good education, a strong work ethic, family and a faith in God were sown.
Raymond attended grammar school at Turner School and later matriculated to Frederick Douglass High School. During the fall of 1957 the family relocated to the Leggett Road Area of Rocky Mount. Where he then became a 1959 graduate of Phillips High School, Battleboro, North Carolina.
Raymond and his siblings along with their parents worked countless hours harvesting corn and tobacco. He oftened recanted the long hours, the hard work and his daily routine of milking the family’s cow “Bessie”.
Shortly, after graduation Raymond relocated to Newport New, Virginia which he often referred to as God’s County. He would go on to spend the next fifty-six years there mainly
living in the Newsome Park Area. He was the owner and operator of A & L Professional Carpet Services for fifty-three years. He took great pride in his work and his customers. He would often say “He produced the best work because he was not a jack legged carpet layer”.
Raymond was baptized at an early age and joined the Hickory View Baptist Church under the leadership of the Elder J.H. Dixon. In October of 2002 he was baptized again and joined the Grace Fellowship Church a multicultural/multiracial ministry there he was actively involved in retired workers ministry on Tuesday mornings. He would later transition to Liberty Baptist Church of Hampton, Virginia another multicultural/multiracial ministry. Where he was an active member of the Senior Adult School Class it was here that he met Kendall & Jean Parker whom quickly became his confidants. While at Liberty Baptist Church he was known for his made from scratch Banana Pudding and Homemade Carrot Cake.
Raymond desiring to be closer to his family after the passing of his mother decided to relocate to Winston Salem, North Carolina in August of 2015.
He was an avid reader of his bible and biblical materials. He was also a lover of family gatherings. It was his joy to spend Thanksgiving 2017 surrounded by love of his family.
Then Tuesday April 3, 2018 Raymond quietly joined that immeasurable caravan of travelers to that distance land where no traveler has ever return.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Taylor Sr, two sisters Gertrude and Bessie Katherine, his wife Patricia Taylor.
Family Members to cherish his memories are three sisters: Lucy Lean Taylor of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Mary Helen Taylor Smalls (Jerry) of Brooklyn, New York, His primary caregiver Annie Ruth Taylor Caesar of Winston-Salem, North Carolina Two Brothers: Marion Lee Taylor (Geraldine) of Brooklyn, New York and Donald Lorenzo Harrison of Litchfield, Arizona. Celebrating the life of Mr. Raymond L. "Boot" Taylor, Jr.
Thank you for signing Mr. Raymond L. "Boot" Taylor, Jr.'s Guestbook
I want to send my deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Raymond L. Taylor, Jr.
The bible tells us we can gain comfort from God, even during times of sorrow. We can pray to our heavenly father for help to cope with the sorrow felt from the death of a loved one.
By prayer and supplication, let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6
The bible also promises that God “will wipe out every tear from [our] eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” (Revelation 21:4) How comforting and reassuring that is! May you find comfort by relying on our heavenly father and learning more about the blessings of God's kingdom.
