Obituary

Rocky Mount, NC

On May 24, 2018, Karl Dennis Jones, Sr. went home to be with Jehovah. Born January 1, 1946, to Ovida Jones Baker and the late Clarence Lancaster. He was raised by his mother and the late Miller Baker, Sr. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, six uncles and two aunts.

Before moving to Washington, DC, Karl attended Rocky Mount city schools including Booker T. Washington High School. He gave his life to Christ in April 1990 and continued his commitment to Christ at Galilee Baptist Church, Church of the Great Commission, and The Temple of Praise in the Washington, DC area.

Karl led a full and happy life committed to his family, and faithful to his friends. He received the love and respect that he gave freely in all his encounters and endeavors. He was known for his sharp dressing and never lost his flare.

After spending a summer in the 60’s in New York City, his high school friends nicknamed him “New York Jones”. In his pastime, he had love for buying and selling cars and developed a special interest in Cadillacs. He served as head Chef at Cafritz Hospital aka Greater Southeast Hospital for many years and spent several years at the Bureau of Engraving until his health failed him. Never fearing hard work he held numerous other jobs through the years.

Leaving to cherish his wonderful memory: his loving wife, Patricia Bullock Jones, son Karl Dennis Jones, Jr. daughter Theresa McArthur (Lennie), grandchildren, Shamika Jones (Courtney), James and Juan McArthur and one great grand – Jayden, of Suitland and Prince Georges County, Maryland; and through his union with Patricia: Paula Davis of Waldorf, Maryland, Lyn Denise Thompson (David) of Ranson, West Virginia, Leona Martin of Waldorf, Maryland, and Bradley Burnside of Washington, DC with 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, 4 sisters, one sister-in-law, and host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and close family friends.

A Visitation for Mr. Jones will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at St. James Baptist Church, 527 E. Thomas St, in Rocky Mount, NC. The Interment will take place immediately following the service in Bakers Cemetery, Rocky Mount, NC.
