Ms. Alma Bernice Thomas

Roanoke Rapids, NC

Ms. Alma Bernice Thomas, 72, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, transitioned her life on Thursday, October 5, 2017 to go to her heavenly home. Alma was born on January 19, 1945 to Charles and Vergie Williams Thomas. She was 72 years old. She was a lifelong resident of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

She accepted her walk with God in her early years and continued her walk until her death. She was a lady of strong faith and belief in her loving Savior. She was a loving and gentle soul and was kind to all who knew her. Even with her physical and mental challenges, she loved her family and her church family; but most of all, she loved her God. It all resonated in singing songs and praising God in her own way.

Alma was home-schooled by parents and siblings. Alma was a strong willed person and would challenge you if she thought she was right.

She leaves to cherish her indelible memory, her loving brothers: Charles (Elizabeth) Thomas, Donnell (Patricia) Thomas both of Roanoke Rapids, NC and a sister: Mattie (Rev. John) Drakeford of Norwalk, Connecticut; a brother-in-law: Thomas Epps of Stockbridge, GA; five nephews: Alfie Carter, Martin Epps, Bryan Epps, Kevin Epps and Jeffrey Epps.; two nieces: Shelley Thomas and Tarsha Drakeford; seven great-nieces: Synfanhie Epps, Genisis Gregory, Kiera Epps, Eden Gregory, Dakota Carter, Imani Carter, and Laila Carter; one great-nephew: Isaish Carter. She also leaves one uncle: Nathaniel Thomas and two dear and special aunts: Ruth Williams and Mary Alice Mallory; and a host of friends and cousins to cherish her memory and don’t forget about her group home sisters and staff.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Vergie Williams Thomas and her sister: Gerlie Mae Epps.

Alma fought a good fight and finished her course with valor, but when she couldn’t fight anymore, she answered the call, closed her eyes and said goodbye to this old world and accepted her new address in Heaven where she will spend life eternal with those who have gone on before her and with her God.
