Prince Phillips (also known as "PP"), born on October 11, 1949, transitioned from this earthly life on January 9, 2018 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC. The son of the late David Marion Phillips and Mary Lee Lewis Phillips, was the seventh of eight children. Unique to Prince: "he was the fourth and last generation of males named ‘Prince’ in the Phillips family”.
Prince recently rededicated his life to Christ, renewing his membership at his home church, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Battleboro, North Carolina. Prince received
his early education from the Public Schools of Edgecombe County. He was a graduate of Phillips High School, class of 1967. In 1969 Prince relocated to Washington, D.C. where he
became an avid fan of the Washington Redskins. Prince loved his family and friends and could spin a story that would have you bursting with side-stitching tears of laughter. He loved attending his high school class reunions where he socialized with his classmates and friends. Prince was a regular supporter and attendee at the Annual Phillips/Bricks Alumni Association reunions.
Early in his career he became an expert computer technician. Later in his career Prince became an entrepreneur in the trucking business. He shared many stories about his cross-
country ventures. His hobbies were listening to music, dancing a smooth two-step and being on top of trending issues in the news. Family and friends always looked forward to his return trips from North Carolina because he always made sure to transport authentic North Carolina barbecue. Prince never met a stranger and was an inspiration to everyone who crossed his path.
Prince will be remembered by all who knew him as having a joyful spirit, being a sharp and meticulous dresser, well liked and being able to get along with everyone.
Prince was preceded in death by one brother, David M. Phillips, Jr. and two sisters; Mary Cherry and Susie M. Deveraux.
Prince leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his beloved companion, Mary L. Reid of Temple Hills, MD; four sisters, Bessie L. Morgan (Junious), Beatrice Watson both
of Rocky Mount, NC, Mary E. Morgan (Persell) of Clayton,NC and Rosa P. Hanna (Robert) of Triangle, VA; one uncle,Charlie Lewis (Elizabeth) of Battleboro, NC; and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. One special nephew, Daryl M. Watson of Temple Hills, MD was like a son to him.
