Mrs. Mary Ellen King, 71, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, died on Monday, December 25, 2017 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, NC. The daughter of the late Howard and Mattie Boone, began her journey with life on September 20, 1946 in Halifax County, North Carolina.

Her education was obtained at John Armstrong Chaloner School in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and she furthered her education at Halifax Community College. She was an Accountant for the family business.

Our mother was a mother to all. She was loving, kind, and made sure all were taken care of. She was the matriarch of her family and reared seven children to carry on her legacy of love.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony, Jr. and two brothers, Howard and Jerome.

Her precious smile and lovingness will forever be cherished by her children: Johnnie Lee King, Jr. (Teresa) of Enfield, NC, Ronnie King (Carolann) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Anthony King (Phyllis) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Sandra Denise King (Karl) of Franklin, VA, Brian King (Cheryl) of Wendell, NC, Mona King (Jermaine) of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Lorenzo (Bert) King of the home; grandchildren: Quanica, Johntia, Johnnie Lee King, III, Lillian, PoBoigh, Ronnie, Jr., Jessica, Dorien, Chantal, Joshua, Timothy, Marcus, Aniyah, Justice, Jaylen, Zhané, Asia, and Ashley; and five great-grandchildren; her siblings: Shirley, Margie (Elton), Linia, Willie (Wanda), and Eakie Lee (Eva); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

A Visitation for Mrs. King will be held from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 pm, with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, December 30, 2017, in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. The Interment will take place immediately after the Service in the Simmons Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
