Mrs. Minnie Ann E. Smith

Mrs. Minnie Ann E. Smith, 73, of Garysburg, North Carolina, passed quietly with her family by her side on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Rex Healthcare Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

She was born on January 25, 1944 in Northampton County, North Carolina to the late Linwood and Fannie Williams Pierce.

Minnie Ann, as she was affectionately called, joined Chapel Grove Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.

She’s a graduate of Northampton County Public Schools. Minnie Ann was a devoted homemaker and caregiver for her family until her health would no longer allow. Minnie Ann enjoyed watching her soap operas, completing TV Guide’s crossword puzzles, and listening and dancing to music. Other interests included her love for putting together jigsaw puzzles and cross stitching, placing them all over the walls when done.

Minnie Ann was a second mother/grandmother to her siblings, nieces and nephews. She was the glue that kept her family together. Each year the family gathered together and it would be centered around making sure that Minnie Ann was there to cook and in later years, there to be cherished.

In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Christmas Pierce and Eugene “Popcorn” Pierce.

Minnie Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years: Joseph “Joe” Smith, Sr.; their beloved son: Joseph “Junnie/Joe, Jr.” Smith, Jr. of the home; one brother: Jessie “Horse” Pierce of Garysburg, NC; one sister: Dollie Pierce of Washington, DC; eight sisters-in-law: Andrea Pierce of Oxon Hill, MD, Ertie Delaney, Louise Harvey, Clarestine Robinson (Roosevelt), all of Baltimore, MD, Coretha Young (Ray) of Owings Mills, MD, Shirley Simmons of Washington, DC, Salley Bradley of Weldon, NC and Susie Smith of Garysburg NC; one brother-in-law: Clarence Smith (Juanita) of Garysburg, NC; a host of nieces and nephews, four in which she held dear: LaShona R. Johnson (Eric), whom she raised like a daughter, Jeannine Mines, Tomeka Robinson and Eugene Pierce (Vivicea); and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, with three in particular she called her grandkids: Eric, Jr. “EJ”, Evan and Erionna Johnson; and a special friend: Vickie Prince, along with a host of other relatives and many friends.

A Visitation for Mrs. Smith will be held from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 pm, with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 1:00 pm, on Friday, January 19, 2018 in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. The Interment will take place immediately after the Service in Chapel Grove Memorial Gardens in Garysburg, NC.
