Mr. William Alfred Johnson, 67, of Gaston, North Carolina, died on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, NC. A son of the late Eva Mae Johnson Benthall, William was born in Northampton County, North Carolina on April 23, 1950.

At an early age, he accepted Christ and joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Seaboard, North Carolina.

` He received his formal education through the public schools of Northampton County.

For many years, William worked on the farm as a Farmer until his health began to fail.

“Boot”, as he was affectionately known by most, was a loving soulmate, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.

Peacefully, he departed this life on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

He leaves to cherish the memories of his life, his soulmate for many years: Evelyn Banks of the home, Gaston, NC; his children: Linda Banks of Garysburg, NC, Amanda Williams, whom he reared as his own, of the home, Gaston, NC; five grandchildren: Lateisha and Ja’Quan Simmons, both of Garysburg, NC and three others which he considered as his own: Demontre, Deonte, and Demonte Bowden of Gaston, NC; three great-grandchildren: Jaceyon and JaQuez Simmons, both of Conway, NC and LaMyia Dowell of Garysburg, NC; one aunt: Molly Johnson of Gaston, NC; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

In addition, ‘Boot” is now rejoined with his mother Eva Mae Johnson Benthall, his aunt Polly Pernell, and grandmother Lucille Johnson Pope.

A Visitation for Mr. Johnson will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 Noon, with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 20, 2018, in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. The Interment will take place immediately after the Service in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery in Gaston, NC.
