Mrs. Bessie Ann Wright, 67, transitioned into eternal life on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in Emporia, Virginia. She was born on May 2, 1950 to the late Annie Pearl Turner and Albert Walton, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death, her adopted mother: Mary Obie Shepard; adopted father: Johnny Waller; aunt: Annie L. Steward; one son: Zackery Broadnax; two daughters: Treva Ann Broadnax and Veronica Denise Gray.
Bessie spent her earthly life here in Emporia, Virginia. She received her education from Greenville County Training School. She worked as a Cook for several restaurants in the area until the early 80’s when she became self-employed and took on clients like Herman Sadler, Nancy Roach, Clyde Harrel, and lawyer Vincent, just to name a few. Bessie was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Emporia, Virginia under the leadership of Pastor Clifton Threat. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, fishing, cleaning, going to thrift stores and working in the yard with her flowers. This lady loved a flower! To know her was to love her; she loved to laugh and have fun. There was never a dull moment when she was in the room. She always had a joke for you. She also loved to have a “get-together” and invite everybody. Then she would put you out when it’s time to go and you don’t want to leave!
Bessie leaves to cherish her fond memories, her husband of six years: Andrew Wright; three sons: James Anthony Broadnax (Kesha) of Gaston, NC, Eric Orlando Broadnax (Marilyn) of Garysburg, NC, and Elton Lamont Broadnax of Freeman, VA; four daughters: Lisa Michelle Cameron (Rodney) of Emporia, VA, Deloris Edwards of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Nora Priscilla Broadnax (Joseph) of Rocky Mount, NC, Stephanie Lynette Speller (Kenneth) of Emporia, VA; a special granddaughter of the home: Sherika Lowe (Derrick); seven step-children: Ricky Davis, Regina Lewis, Diandre Wright, Regina Hicks, Andrew Taylor, Darrin Sloan and Vern Sloan; two extended daughters: Sona Turner and Tameika Singleton; maternal siblings: Lilly May Vaughan, Evelyn Stevens, Barbara Waller, Elsie Turner, Joanne Jenkins, Nelson Shedrick, Charles Shedrick, Edwina Peoples, and Adjua Mantabea; paternal siblings: Barbara Ann Walton, Rose Loretta, Jeanie Mae Frank, Lee Walton and Tony Albert Walton (Dorothy); one special friend: Paula Goodrich; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grand-children, other family and many friends, as she never met a stranger.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Bessie's family . I'm so sorry and I hate that I did not know of Bessie's passing until just yesterday, April 7. She was a special lady and I felt is if she was a part of my family. She will be greatly missed.

I want to send my deepest sympathy to the family of Mrs. Bessie Ann Wright.
The bible tells us we can gain comfort from God, even during times of sorrow. We can pray to our heavenly father for help to cope with the sorrow felt from the death of a loved one.
By prayer and supplication, let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6
The bible also promises that God “will wipe out every tear from [our] eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” (Revelation 21:4) How comforting and reassuring that is! May you find comfort by relying on our heavenly father and learning more about the blessings of God's kingdom.
