Mr. Willie Green Norwood, 62, of Orange, New Jersey, and formerly of Jackson, North Carolina, began his journey through life in Jackson, North Carolina (Occoneechee Neck). He was born April 9, 1955 to the parentage of the late David Norwood and Nettie Benjamin Norwood.
Willie was baptized at an early age and became a member of Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church located in Jackson, NC. He later relocated to Orange, New Jersey.
Willie was educated in the Northampton County School System. He joined the United States Army and later worked for the Veteran’s Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey.
Willie was a devoted brother and uncle. He enjoyed listening to rhythm and blues music and was an avid fan of most sports particularly basketball and football. He was very outgoing and enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends.
Willie peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 in the serenity of his home to join his parents David and Nettie, brothers – Thomas and Frank, and Sisters – Sarah and Hazel.
Treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of: his faithful siblings: Roland Norwood, Mary Drayton (Leon), and David Norwood all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his wonderful nephews and nieces: Alvin, Ricky, Thomas Jr, David, Leon Jr. (Kenisha), Nettie Mae, Helen (Rodney), Angel, Evelena, Loretta, and Quanda (Jerryo), and a host of great nieces and nephews, caring cousins, a life-long friend Gloria Peebles, other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Norwood will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 7, 2018, in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home.

Our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family. Words alone can not ease the pain when grieving the loss of a love one. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states, “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away”. May God give you and your family comfort in your loving memories and in His promise that soon we will never experience losing our loved ones in death and we will be able to see them again once they resurrected as per John 5:28-29. May these words give you a new hope, with deepest sympathy and warmth of heart.
