Mrs. Lula M. Barnes



Rocky Mount, NC

On Saturday, May 5, 2018,God in His infinite wisdom called our mother, Lula Mae Barnes from Labor to Reward.

Lula was born in Edgecombe County, NC on November 19, 1919, to the late John and Ellen Barnes. On September 25,1937 she was united in Holy Matrimony to George Douglas Barnes and to this union eight children were born. She was preceded in death by two of her children, Douglas Barnes, Jr.and William Bobby Barnes.

She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an awesome grandma.

Lula was a true child of God. She loved the Lord with her whole heart. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at Cherry Chapel Baptist Church. She joined Mt. Olive Baptist
Church, and later, First Missionary Baptist Church, Elm City, NC. She loved singing, and was annointed to sing. She served faithfully in Community Jewels, and the church choir.

She love to plant beautiful flowers in her garden, and sitting on her porch. She was also preceded in death by: six sisters, Maggie Hudson, Mattie Pinkney, Henrietta Barnes, Essie Dupree, Ora Battle, and Alice Ward, and one brother, Bud Jones.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: her children, Vanjiman (Earldene) Barnes, Fort Washington, MD, Willis Milton (Angelia) Barnes, Alton (Carolyn) Barnes, and Phyllis
(Melvin) Branch, all of Rocky Mount, NC, Christine (Mick) Mickens of Philadelphia, PA, Eulah (Kenneth) Harrison, Monroe, GA; 45 granchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren, a
host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Visitation for Mrs. Barnes will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 6211 E. Langley Rd, in Elm City, NC 27855. The interment will take place immediately after the service in Gardens of Gethsemane in Rocky Mount, NC.
