Mr. Jessie Dixon

Rocky Mount, NC

Jessie Dixon was born to Joseph Dixon and Anna Speight Dixon on February 12, 1921 in Greene County, NC. On July 10, 2018, the Lord dispatched His Heavenly angels to take him home. He was the last out of twelve siblings.

Jessie received his formal education in the Greene County School System. For over twenty-five years, Jessie worked for the Cokey Road Oil Mill where he later retired. Never one to sit still for long, Jessie assisted his father-in-law in running in his farm. In addition each Saturday, Jessie provided fresh vegetables to his sisters, brothers, and nieces.
Jessie was a good-natured and compassionate person who delighted himself by helping others. He will be remembered for his consistent display of love and concern for his family, neighbors, and others. He will also be remembered as a sharp dresser, or better yet the “Bow Tie” Man. He loved wearing his bow ties, and ensuring he was dressed from head to toe. Everyone will remember him as the well-dressed man even just sitting in his family room at home.

Over 62 years ago, he gave his life to Christ. He was a faithful member and trustee of St. Paul Baptist Church. Most of all, he exemplified the true qualities of a Godly man.

On May 14, 1943, Jessie married William Ann Lucas Dixon, who preceded him death. To this union, one daughter, Sallie Mae Dixon Thomas was born.

Jessie was preceded in death by all eleven of his siblings: including, five brothers, Joseph Dixon,Nathan Dixon, Saul Dixon, Alfred Dixon, Hyman Dixon, and six sisters, Maddie Mercer, Annie Edwards, Cora Mae Hines, Anna Dixon, Josephine Edwards, and Carrie Dixon, and one grandson whom he loved dearly, Ronald Erik Thomas.

Those who leaves to cherish his unforgettable memory: one daughter, Sallie Mae Dixon Thomas (Robert), and one brother-in-law, Elder Booker T. Hines, Sr. of Washington, DC, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
