Obituary

Rocky Mount, NC

Willie “Fred” Gupton a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend was born on August 9, 1956 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, to the late James R.C. Gupton and Hattie Price Gupton.Fred went home to be with the Lord on September 11, 2018 in the comfort of his own home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Fred was a member of Greater Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He was known as a dedicated and motivated hard worker. Having graduated from South Edgecombe High School he enjoyed still being able to help his mother and father at home.

Fred’s hobbies were horseback riding and working on cars. If you saw Fred with a cowboy hat and overalls you knew he was going for a ride and if you said that your car was broken down, you knew that he and Wendell would be there to fix it. Fred was a true engineer at heart.

Proceeding him in death were his son Tobias Toler, two brothers; James R.W. (Mug) and Willie “Burnette” Gupton, three sisters; Annie O’Neal Gupton Dixon, Sarah Berry, and Barbara Terry.

Fred leaves to cherish his memories his granddaughter Quentazia Toler, one sister Daisy Hines (Benjamin) of Baltimore, Maryland, Four brothers; Lee Van “Poonk” (Gwendolyn), Kenneth “Niak” (Christine), David “Bo” (Viola), and Wendell Gupton all of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Visitation for Mr. Gupton will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in the Rocky Mount Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home, 325 Nash St., Rocky Mount, NC.
